Help usually comes after the need
A disaster strikes. A family is plunged into hardship overnight. A school's winter preparations are left half finished. Only then do campaigns get opened, announced, shared and funded. While that happens, days pass, yet need is at its sharpest in the first hour.
The General Fund reverses that order. The resource is ready first, so when a need arises it only has to set out. You give today, and help can be on the ground within the first hour tomorrow.
A pool everyone can join
All it takes to join the General Fund is the wish to set something aside for good. Individuals, families, businesses, communities and organisations are all welcome. Every gift, small or large, goes into the same pool and serves the same purpose. Give whenever you like, in any amount, once or again.
What does the fund aim to support?
- Urgent needs: Situations that arise without warning and cannot wait.
- Disaster relief: Shelter, food and other essentials from the first hours of earthquakes, floods, fires and other disasters.
- Verified campaigns: A boost for reviewed campaigns on the site that urgently need support and have not yet reached their goal.
- Collective aid programs: Seasonal programs such as winter bill support, back to school and disaster readiness.
- Direct field support: Needs identified by local authorities, aid organisations or field teams that must be met straight away.
The door is always open
The General Fund stays open without an end date, because need does not follow a calendar. Even after the goal is reached, gifts keep gathering in the same pool and reaching new needs.
How your gift is protected and how decisions are made
Every donation to the General Fund is held in Donation Center's escrow until it is used. The Donation Board decides where and how the fund is used, and every decision is published on this site. Once the board members are confirmed, they will be introduced on this page.
A note on donations
A contribution to the General Fund is a donation, given without anything in return. A 3% service fee is added to your donation at checkout; the whole of your donation goes to the fund.
