About This Campaign

Conscious living extends beyond food: dishwashing detergent residues on cookware, fabric softeners retained in laundry, household surface cleaners, and the textiles and leather in contact with our skin all day are part of daily life. Because household cleaning labels rarely require full ingredient disclosure like food or cosmetics, consumers often cannot tell whether fabric-softener surfactants (such as tallow-derived esterquats), fatty acids, enzyme fermentation media, or leather and adhesives in footwear come from animal, plant, or synthetic sources.

This research programme is structured into two distinct work packages: Work Package A examines surfactants, enzymes, preservatives, and optical brighteners in household cleaners for both their plant/animal/synthetic origins and their residue and allergen profiles. Work Package B evaluates natural and synthetic fibers, leather types, azo dyes, and water/stain-repellent finishes (PFAS) in textiles against international eco-certifications (OEKO-TEX, GOTS, EU Ecolabel) and chemical safety regulations (such as EU REACH).

Phase 1 of this ongoing programme delivers 35 comprehensive research dossiers—20 on household cleaning chemicals and 15 on textile and leather materials—each reviewed by domain specialists in chemistry and textile engineering and published free of charge on the HalalVera Knowledge Base.

What will support fund?

  • Work Package A (20 Dossiers): Origin and residue studies on surfactants, fatty-acid derivatives, and enzymes in dishwashing liquids, laundry detergents, fabric softeners, and baby-ware cleaners
  • Work Package B (15 Dossiers): Material origin and chemical safety evaluations for leather/fur types, textile fibers, dyes, and PFAS treatments in clothing, footwear, and home textiles
  • Specialist verification by chemistry, textile engineering, and toxicology experts alongside OEKO-TEX, GOTS, EU Ecolabel, and REACH regulatory comparisons
  • Multilingual, free publication of a household chemical ingredient glossary and practical consumer guides for safer cleaning and textile choices

Support this research so everyone can know the true ingredient origins and safety standards of the cleaning products and textiles in their homes.
