About This Campaign
The mineral balance of drinking water, the containers it is stored in, and the filtration media inside home water purifiers are among the most common yet least transparent topics in daily life. Consumers are often left with marketing claims when trying to understand bottled water label metrics (pH, TDS, sodium, nitrates, fluoride), evidence on microplastic or chemical migration from PET bottles and polycarbonate carboys under heat, or which filter technology removes which specific contaminants.
Activated carbon and ion-exchange cartridges used in water pitchers and under-sink systems can be manufactured from plant sources (coconut shells), mineral/fossil sources (bituminous coal, zeolites), or animal sources (bone char). This research programme documents the verified origins of filter media, maps what each NSF/ANSI standard (such as NSF 42 for chlorine/taste, NSF 53 for lead/heavy metals, and NSF 58 for reverse osmosis) actually certifies, and compares water quality parameters against WHO, EPA, and EU benchmarks.
Phase 1 of this ongoing programme delivers 30 comprehensive research dossiers: 15 covering home filtration technologies and filter media origins, and 15 covering drinking water quality metrics and packaging safety. All completed dossiers and consumer guides are published free of charge on the HalalVera Knowledge Base.
What will support fund?
- 15 research dossiers on the raw-material origins (plant coconut shell, mineral coal, vs. animal bone char) and performance of activated carbon, reverse osmosis, resin, and mineral filters
- 15 research dossiers on bottled water label metrics (pH, minerals, nitrates, heavy metals) and microplastic/heat migration findings across PET, polycarbonate carboys, and glass
- Specialist verification by water chemistry and environmental/food engineers alongside WHO, EPA, EU, and NSF/ANSI (42·53·58) standard comparisons
- Multilingual, free publication of consumer guides on reading water labels, checking what specific NSF certifications cover, and maintaining home filters safely
Support this research so everyone can understand the quality parameters of their drinking water, the safety of its packaging, and what is inside their home filter.
